CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Coming into the Class AA state championship match, Oak Glen had posted a 37-0 record and they dropped only four sets all year long. Shady Spring nearly upset a run at perfection but the Golden Bears rallied from two sets down to defeat the Tigers 3-2.
Shady Spring (48-6-2) took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23 before the Golden Bears rallied. Oak Glen won the third set 25-23 and the fourth set 25-17. In the fifth and decisive set, the Golden Bears ran off nine consecutive points and were never threatened, winning 15-5.
Oak Glen now owns seven state championships.
