Arkansas transfer Gabe Osabuohien ruled immediately eligible

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s men’s basketball team has another option in the front court moving forward this season.

Arkansas transfer Gabe Osabuohien, a 6-foot-7 junior, was declared immediately eligible by the NCAA on Wednesday.

Osabuohien joined the Mountaineers in August 2019, but did not have his waiver approved until two days before West Virginia’s fourth game of the season.

“Obviously, we are all excited for Gabe and for our entire team,” head coach Bob Huggins said. “Our guys were ecstatic when we got word of his immediate eligibility during practice today. He gives us another much-needed big man who can defend on the perimeter as well as play on the offensive end. We are pleased that the NCAA approved his waiver.”

The Toronto, Ontario native played 54 games over two seasons for the Razorbacks. He averaged 3.1 points and 3.2 rebounds as a sophomore, but was dismissed from the program by first-year head coach Eric Musselman.
