PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Parkersburg outscored George Washington 32-11 in the third quarter en route to an 81-47 win at the PHS Fieldhouse.
The 81 points scored by the Big Reds represents their second-highest point total of the season. PHS led by just four points (35-31) at halftime but broke the game open with a fast start to the third quarter.
“We just talked about not letting (Kalissa) Lacy go off again in the second half,” said Parkersburg head coach Scott Cozzens. “We challenged them a little bit and we responded pretty well.”
Lacy scored 19 of her game-high 27 points in the first half for George Washington (11-6). Breanna Wilson led three Big Red scorers in double figures with 18 points.
“She has been in a little funk but she is starting to come out of it. She was shooting really well in practice and it is nice to see for her confidence some shots go in today.”
Maddi Leggett scored 17 points for the Big Reds and Aleea Crites added 13. Parkersburg (13-5) has won seven consecutive games since the start of the new year. They will likely face George Washington again in the Mountain State Athletic Conference Championship game on February 22nd at the South Charleston Community Center.
“It is important this time of year to start seeing improvement in the young kids,” Cozzens said. “It is a big help for us to start playing real well right now.”
