MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown biotechnology firm is one of 26 firms to be accepted into a program allowing for the further development of its data visualization system.
IstoVisio will receive $100,000 for its membership in the University of California at Berkeley SkyDeck Accelerator program, which will also include pairing with key technology and investment partners.
IstoVisio developed syGlass, a system designed for viewing objects using virtual reality headsets.
“If you were to view a CT scan with a tumor inside of syGlass you could move your head around the tumor as if it were a hologram floating in front of you,” co-founder and CEO Michael Morehead explained. “That extra insight may mean the difference between discovery or not.”
The technology is now used in more than 100 research institutions, including those associated with Harvard and Johns Hopkins universities.
Morehead added syGlass also has potential in the oil and gas industry.
