19 more WVU football players test positive for COVD-19

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In the latest COVID-19 testing numbers released by the WVU Department of Athletics, 19 additional football student-athletes have tested positive for the coronavirus. That brings the cumulative total to 28 since team members began testing upon return to campus in June for offseason strength and conditioning activities.

Since testing began in June, a total of 518 tests have been administered within the department.

Positive test results since June total 41. 28 have come in football, 5 in men’s basketball, 6 in women’s basketball, 1 in women’s soccer and 1 staff member.

All individuals entered self-isolation for 14 days at the time of their positive result and contact tracing was initiated.

Men’s basketball and women’s basketball full team practices are scheduled to begin Monday, July 20 after initial pauses due to multiple positive tests on each team.
