CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Mingo County nurse is planning to participate in multiple White House interviews regarding the coronavirus pandemic after her appearance last month at the Republican National Convention.
Amy Ford, a registered nurse from Williamson, spoke on the first day of the convention about the response to the pandemic, thanking the Trump administration for federal funding directed toward telemedicine services.
“They contacted me and asked me if they could schedule me for some more radio and television interviews,” she told MetroNews affiliate WCHS-AM last week. “You may be seeing me a little bit more.”
Ford spent the early stages of the pandemic working as a COVID-19 relief nurse in New York City and San Antonio.
Ford noted her convention speech was recorded and a collaborative effort.
“They did present me with a speechwriter to assist me,” she said. “I wrote my speech and then I submitted it to her. We kind of went back and forth maybe five or six times. They gave me an idea of what they wanted me to share, but they didn’t tell me what I had to say.”
Ford said the reaction to her speech has been mostly positive.
“I wanted nurses and all health care (workers) to be recognized,” she said. “They have put forth a lot and sacrificed a lot during this pandemic, and they deserve that recognition.”
Ford added she is considering going back to Texas to provide nursing assistance.
