GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Employees at Glenville State College are being vaccinated against COVID-19.
The school announced Thursday it expects 90 of its workers to have received the first of two inoculations by the end of next week.
Glenville State President Mark Manchin is among those to have the initial shot in the arm.
“With the arrival of these COVID-19 vaccines on campus and in our Gilmer County community, it feels as though we are seeing some light at the end of this pandemic tunnel. Many of our employees – myself included – have already taken advantage of this vaccination opportunity and others will follow,” Manchin said in a news release from GSC. “Of course, this also reminds us that we must continue measures to control the spread of the Coronavirus such as wearing masks, social distancing, and so on.”
Glenville surveyed its workers in December to gauge interest in the vaccinations. The school is working with the Minnie Hamilton Health System and others on receiving and administering the doses, Provost Gary Morris said.
“Glenville State’s vaccination effort is the result of collaboration between the West Virginia National Guard, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, and Minnie Hamilton Health System,” Morris said. “The teamwork between our campus and these institutions should serve as a model for how communication and supply distribution can work in the future across the state.”
