Active cases jump back up in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active cases of Covid 19 have climbed again in West Virginia. The state Department of Health and Human Resources on Thursday reported 432 new cases which pushed the active case total 7,153. The daily positivity rate for testing stood at 4.43 percent.

Thursday’s report included one fatality blamed on the Coronavirus. The victim was a 69-year old man from Harrison County. His death brings the total deaths from the virus in West Virginia to 2,674.

Wetzel and Berkeley Counties remained red on the daily alert system map. Greenbrier, McDowell, Raleigh, Mingo, and Hardy Counties would have been in red under the alternative metrics. Red is the highest level of transmission of the virus in a county.

Hospitalizations in West Virginia stand at 247 patients, 78 of those patients are in intensive care.

The push to vaccinate goes on. The DHHR reported on Thursday 576, 679 West Virginians have been fully vaccinated. Those who have received the first shot now total 707,329.
