Eastern panhandle hospitals tighten down visitation restrictions

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — More stringent visitation policies are coming to the hospitals in Berkeley and Jefferson counties.

WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center have announced beginning Thursday only one approved adult visitor is allowed per day per inpatient. Visitors will be screened and must wear a mask at all times.

Patients who have or may have COVID-19 may only be permitted a visitor every five days.

Exceptions will be made for life threatening emergencies or sensitive patient care situations.

Adjusted guidelines apply to the pediatric, obstetrics and NICU units.

The hospital system announced in a statement Wednesday that the changes have become necessary due to the Delta variant of COVID-19 becoming more prevalent in our region and the increase of “symptomatic patients seen in the hospital’s emergency departments and COVID-19 positive hospitalizations realized at both medical facilities.”

There are also changes to the Emergency Room protocol. More details can be found at
