PAW PAW, W.Va. — Morgan County Schools will follow mask mandate outlined by Berkeley/Morgan County Health Department.
The school system announced Wednesday they would abide by the recommendations of Berkeley and Morgan County Health Officer Dr. Kevin McLaughlin, who said masks should be worn indoors on school property when the county has ten new cases during the previous week.
“The levels of community transmission of COVID-19 are being monitored by the BMCHD daily and the status on Friday of each week will determine the face covering practices in place for all students, staff and visitors on Morgan County Schools property for the following week,” according to the statement.
“When the transmission level is ranked in the “substantial” or “high” categories, masks will be required indoors.”
The masks allow all staff and students to stay in school because there is little risk of exposure, according to the statement, which said last year’s quarantines, remote learning days and various schedules were not easy on students, staff or parents.
Meanwhile, the reaction on the district’s Facebook page to the announcement was mostly negative Wednesday night.
