CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding people to turn their clocks back one hour and change the batteries on their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as daylight saving time ends.
Daylight saving time will end Sunday at 2 a.m.
The Fire Marshal’s Office recommends households with 10-year battery-operated smoke alarms test alarms to ensure the devices still work properly.
As temperatures fall, people may be interested in using alternative heating sources like propane heaters. The Fire Marshal’s Office says propane heaters should not be used indoors and portable space heaters should not be plugged into an extension cord. Families should also have a carbon monoxide detector.
