Multi-year starting quarterback Jarret Doege announces he is leaving WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Hours after the Mountaineers lost their leading receiver Winston Wright Jr. to transfer portal, multi-year starting quarterback Jarret Doege announced he too will be leaving Morgantown. On Friday evening, Doege posted a message on social media that he will be, “Looking for a new home for the 2022 season”.

Doege transferred to WVU from Bowling Green prior to the start of the 2019 season. He assumed the starting quarterback role late that year and has started WVU’s last 26 games.

The Lubbock, Texas native completed 65 percent of his passes this year. He passed for 3,048 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. For his WVU career, Doege threw 40 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions. His 6,453 passing yards rank fifth on the WVU career list.

Doege will have one season of eligibility remaining should he elect to transfer and play at another school.

On their current roster, West Virginia has a pair of scholarship signal callers in Garrett Greene [16-26, 147 yards, 306 rush yards, 4 TD] and Will Crowder. Highly-touted Class of 2022 recruit Nicco Marchiol will enroll early at WVU and will participate in spring drills.
