Fire at Rockwool plant described as minor

RANSON, W.Va. — A fire reported at the Rockwool manufacturing plant in Ranson has been contained and is being described as minor.

The fire was discovered Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m., when a warehouse employee reported a burning smell. Smoke could be seen near an outside storage area of the facility.

A release from the company Thursday morning said “Rockwool’s standard emergency procedures were initiated and area fire departments responded to the scene.”

The release said a few hundred pallets of packaged insulation were affected. the pallets have been contained.

No injuries or damages to the facility were reported.

Rockwool expressed thanks to local fire crews for their quick response.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Eastern Panhandle Rockwool plant makes stone wool insulation. It began production last year.
