Convoy of truckers could impact Eastern Panhandle traffic Friday

HAGERSTOWN, Maryland — As a convoy of truckers inbound from the western United States makes plans to meet up with its Northeast counterparts in just outside the Eastern Panhandle Friday.

Local traffic and law enforcement officials are keeping an eye on their routes including Interstate 81.

Washington County (Md.) Schools has announced they’ll dismiss students 2 and a half hours early Friday. That’s when the People’s Convoy is set to come into Hagerstown.

The People’s Convoy bills itself as a peaceful movement whose goal is to restore personal freedoms.

Organizer Mike Landis says anyone who wants the vaccine should take it.  He says they want the federal government to end the Emergency Powers Act and in his words, restore the Constitution.

The convoy could be several miles long by the time it reaches Hagerstown Friday evening.

The Panhandle News Network has reached out to the reported rally venue in Hagerstown for confirmation.

A schedule on the Convoy’s Website has the group meeting in Hagerstown Friday before heading to just outside the District of Columbia Saturday.

Day 10: Friday, March 4
Morning – Depart Cambridge, OH area
Evening – Arrive in Hagerstown, MD area for overnight stay
Day 11: Saturday, March 5
Morning – Depart Hagerstown, MD area
Evening – Arrive in the DC Beltway area

A statement from the group says “The People’s Convoy will abide by agreements with local authorities, and terminate in the vicinity of the DC area, but will NOT be going into DC proper.”

“The People’s Convoy continues to grow in numbers and support as we peacefully cross the country in unity. The People’s Convoy has been diligent in our message and purpose. Although we support any peaceful movements in spirit, we are not affiliated with any other groups.”

“The People’s Convoy has created an infrastructure with a third-party accounting firm, legal teams, security, and journalists documenting each mile. We encourage truckers and supporters to officially join The People’s Convoy along our route.”

The statement goes on to declare:

“We are traveling across the US in PEACE and UNITY
We are 100% LAW-ABIDING citizenry and convoy
Our core principals of FREEDOM and LIBERTY give rise to the convoy’s request to end the State of Emergency that led to overreaching mandates
We demand government ACCOUNTABILITY through full and transparent congressional hearings
We are NOT going into DC proper, and we will NOT be there for the State of the Union
We are NOT associated with Bob Bolus or other convoys who are planning to go into DC
The People’s Convoy is a peaceful and unified transcontinental movement
This freedom-loving movement is about the journey, not the destination
Our website and social media platforms are the ONLY official locations with details on how to donate, routes and stopping points where people can come support.”
