RIPLEY, W.Va. — Will Hosaflook says becoming the new superintendent of Jackson County Schools will be like a homecoming for him.
“Coming back home, I am a product of Jackson County,” he recently told MetroNews affiliate WMOV Radio in Ravenswood. “To give back to the community that means so much to me is very special.”
The Jackson County Board of Education announced last week Hosaflook will replace retiring superintendent Blaine Hess. Hosaflook currently serves as the superintendent of Wood County Schools.
Hosaflook went to Jackson County Schools growing up and previously served as the principal of Ripley High School.
Taking over for Hess will be big shoes to fill, Hosaflook said.
“I owe a lot to Mr. Hess on how I’ve progressed through the educational world and that’s one person I can always look to,” he said.
Hosaflook said he views education as a way to inspire students in some way whether you’re a teacher or school bus driver.
“Every single position has the ability to change a child’s life in one second. That’s the power of education. That’s the power of being involved on a day to day basis with children because one good comment they’ll remember for the rest of their life,” he said.
Hosaflook said he’s been able to move up the ranks because of the people he’s worked with.
“I cannot tell you the great teachers I’ve had through my years beginning all the way from kindergarten through my senior year and working with the teachers,” he said. “We know education is changing, but one thing will stay constant and that is good instruction in the classroom.”
Hosaflook’s first day is July 1.
