Meteorologists forecast several inches of snow for eastern mountain counties

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has placed the state’s eastern mountain counties under a Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday into early Sunday with several inches of snow possible.

Meteorologists are forecasting 5 to 9 inches of snow at Snowshoe in Pocahontas County and near Harman in Randolph County.

Accumulating snow of 3 to 7 inches is possible for parts of Nicholas, Webster and Randolph counties including the Richwood and Elkins areas.

Parts of Preston and Tucker counties will receive 2 to 6 inches with parts of Grant and Pendleton counties set to pick-up 3 to 5 inches.

The forecast is calling for winds to gust up to 30 mph. The snow is predicted to start out wet and heavy.

The advisory will be in effect from around sunrise Saturday to the early morning hours of Sunday.
