Fairmont Senior guard Marley Washenitz commits to Pittsburgh

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The two-time West Virginia State Player of the Year has made her college choice. Fairmont Senior Guard Marley Washenitz announced on Sunday evening that she has committed to play at the University of Pittsburgh.

Washenitz passed the 2,000-point plateau during last month’s state tournament. The Polar Bears finished as Class AAA state runners-up for the second consecutive season. Washenitz became the first player in five years to repeat as the state player of the year.

Washenitz committed to play at West Virginia prior to her junior season. However, she reopened her recruiting on January 17. In addition to Pitt, Washenitz received offers from Stetson, Villanova, Massachusetts and Youngstown State in her second recruiting cycle.
