CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The deputy secretary of the state Department of Health and Human Resources is no longer with the agency.

A DHHR spokesperson confirmed to MetroNews that Jeremiah Samples left the agency on Thursday.

“Since this is a personnel issue, we are unable to provide further comment,” they added.

Samples played an influential role in the agency’s pursuit of its mission; he repeatedly addressed lawmakers about issues regarding the state’s foster care system and other health care matters.
