CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The total number of active cases of COVID-19 rose into the 400s on Friday, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).
The agency’s dashboard confirmed 437 cases in the Mountain State compared to 367 on Thursday. Friday’s figure is the highest active case total in West Virginia since March 26 when the DHHR reported 468 cases.
The DHHR reported 88 hospitalizations in West Virginia due to COVID-19. That continues a downward trend now at a low last seen mid July 2021. 31 patients are in the ICU due to COVID-19 with 11 on a vent.
Three new virus related deaths were reported Friday including a 60-year old male from Kanawha County, an 81-year old male from Randolph County, and an 89-year old male from Pocahontas County.
“Every loss in West Virginia brings grief to a family,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “As we comfort those who mourn, we must also do our best to stop this deadly virus by choosing to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.”
