Former WVU DL Akheem Mesidor bound for Miami

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In a move that came as little surprise, former WVU defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor announced Wednesday evening that he is committed to play at the University of Miami.

Mesidor left the Mountaineer program unexpectedly on March 31. He was a prominent piece of West Virginia’s defensive line each of the last two seasons. In 2020, he was named an ESPN freshman All-American after recording 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.

In 2021, Mesidor made 38 stops and had one sack while transitioning from playing defensive end and defensive tackle to nose tackle.

Mesidor is the second former Mountaineer to leave Morgantown for Miami this offseason. Cornerback Daryl Porter, Jr. made the same move in February. Former WVU safety and assistant coach Jahmile Addae is entering his first season on staff with the Hurricanes.
