CHARLESTON, W.Va. — MetroNews is digging into the archives to provide highlights of previous games played in West Virginia over the last few decades.

Travis Jones, vice president of content for MetroNews’ parent company WVRC Media, said on 580-WCHS in Charleston Friday a different game will be available at wvmetronews.com every Saturday at 7 p.m.
“We’ve got years and years of memories that, in many cases, are sitting on cassettes and boxes at the MetroNews studios, so we thought why not roll out an opportunity to share some of those past games with our loyal listeners and high school fans across the state,” Jones said.
The games will air in a podcast form, rather than broadcast on MetroNews radio stations on the air, Jones said.
“That way it will be a living, breathing archive that we will continue to build on season after season,” he said. “Plus, people can go back and listen to the games at their convenience any time they want during the week.”
Digitizing the games will be a task, but Jones said it will be worth making the transition.
“You just slip the hard drive in the USB pot, press play on your cassette and it does the rest,” he said about the process to convert the games.
Jones said the idea came about after stations across the state started mentioned games they had on file from years past.
MetroNews broadcasts sporting events on 35 stations across West Virginia.
