CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) confirmed active COVID-19 cases fell by nearly 200 on Tuesday.
The agency reported 2,387 active cases in the Mountain State, down from 2,547 active cases on Monday. Hospitalizations are now at 179, down by seven from the weekend but up 72 patients from one month ago.
30 patients are in the ICU, which is the most since April, and nine patients are on a vent, which is a yearly pandemic low.
The DHHR reported 16 deaths since the last report, making the death total in West Virginia 6,993.
DHHR confirmed the death of a 71-year old male from Kanawha County.
Also included in the total deaths reported on the dashboard as a result of the Bureau for Public Health’s continuing data reconciliation with the official death certificate are a 66-year old male from Wayne County, a 65-year old male from Raleigh County, a 73-year old male from Raleigh County, a 71-year old female from Raleigh County, an 81-year old male from Raleigh County, a 77-year old female from Mason County, a 72-year old male from Raleigh County, a 73-year old male from Putnam County, an 81-year old female from Cabell County, a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, an 83-year old male from Jackson County, a 76-year old female from Raleigh County, a 62-year old female from Preston County, a 74-year old female from Mineral County, and a 74-year old male from Lincoln County.
These deaths range from February 2022 through May 2022, with 10 occurring in November and December 2021.
“Today is another difficult day as West Virginia families cope with the loss of loved ones,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “Being fully vaccinated and boosted is the most effective way to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, or death from COVID-19.”
