Victims identified in Boone County murder-suicide

MADISON, W.Va. — Investigators believe a woman killed her son and turned the gun on herself at a home in the Prenter community on Monday night.

Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said his deputies were called to the home in the Prenter area and found a man and woman dead. They were identified as Jonathan Runion, 48, and Tammy Runion, 64, both of Prenter Road in the Seth area.

Investigators say evidence shows Tammy Runion shot and killed her son Jonathan and then turned the gun on herself. According to the Sheriff, Jonathan Runion was bedridden and was cared for by his mother and father.

“This is such a terrible tragedy and has really shaken the local community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Runion family and the Prenter Community,” said Barker in a Statement.

“Being a caregiver can be very overwhelming and we encourage anyone who needs help to please reach out. There are numerous resources available and contacting them is easier than it’s ever been.,” he continued.

Deputies are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with information pertinent to the incident to call the Boone County Sheriff’s Department to share.
