WVU graduate Damon Cogdell named head coach at U. of Fort Lauderdale

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former WVU linebacker and assistant coach Damon Cogdell has been promoted to interim head coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale. Cogdell will remain the team’s defensive coordinator. He replaces fellow former Mountaineer Quincy Wilson as head coach.

“Cogdell has a great wealth of experience and success as a coach in high school and college football,” UFTL Vice President of Finance/CFO Dr. Brian Hankerson said. “He is well respected around the country and especially in the South Florida community. We are fortunate to have him on our staff and now leading our Eagle football team. We are looking for great things from Cogdell and this talented coaching staff.”

Cogdell played in 17 games at linebacker for the Mountaineers in 1997 and 1998. He later returned to Morgantown as an assistant coach and he has also been an assistant at Alabama State and South Florida.
