Murder charges filed in downtown Morgantown shooting

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Police have a man in custody following a shooting death in downtown Morgantown murder early Sunday morning.

According to Morgantown police, Eric Alastaire Sneed, 34, approached the rear of a parked vehicle in the 200 block of Walnut Street just after 3 a.m. and began firing a pistol into the rear passenger area.

An officer on patrol witnessed Sneed firing the shots as he drove through the intersection of High and Walnut streets.

Police said Sneed fled on foot and was ultimately apprehended near the city parking garage on Chestnut Street with the pistol used in the shooting.

Police said Marcelius Likely, 34, died from gunshot wounds at the hospital. An unidentified female victim is being treated and her condition is not available.

Sneed has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and is awaiting arraignment in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.
