CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Jury selection will begin Monday in the trial of a Charleston man accused of fatally shooting former University of Charleston football player Kane Roush.
Jaquan Hall, 22, faces four charges — including murder — for allegedly shooting Roush near a Meigs County, Ohio apartment complex in April 2021. Investigators said Roush crawled to that building after being shot to get someone to call authorities. Roush told Meigs County officers about the shooting before being transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Officers arrested Hall in July 2021. He later waived extradition. A possible motive behind Hall’s actions has not been disclosed.
Another Charleston man — Keontae Nelson — was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and complicity to murder in connection with Roush’s death.
Roush was a member of the University of Charleston football team. He also was first-team all-state when he played for Wahama High School, in which the program appeared in the 2012 Class A championship.
Monday’s proceedings will begin at 8 a.m. in Pomeroy, Ohio.
