“We want to bring the community together to celebrate the success of so many who have confronted their disease and been able to learn how to manage it and be able to reintegrate with their families and reintegrate back into the community and get back into work and so many people have done that successfully,” Hartiens said.

Saturday’s event is part of National Recovery Month. Hartiens said the the special month is aimed at reducing a lot of the stigma around those who recover from substance abuse treatment and to celebrate those who recover from addiction.

“Mountaineer (Behavioral Health) opened up several years ago and we want to recognize all of the graduates that have graduated from the program.”

Hartiens said there are hundreds if not thousands of people in the tri-county area who are successfully living clean and sober free from the disease of addiction.

Saturday’s event will include music, food trucks, fun and games for the entire family. It’s also a chance to learn about recovery resources and talk to people who are successfully battling addiction.

Recovery in the Park goes from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
