WVSSAC Assistant Executive Director Greg Reed has died

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVSSAC Assistant Executive Director Greg Reed died unexpectedly Wednesday evening in Parkersburg.

Reed was named to the West Virginia Secondary Schools and Activities Commission in December of 2015. Among his numerous responsibilities with the state’s governing body of scholastic athletics, Reed was the supervisor for cross country, soccer, basketball, baseball and tennis.

Prior to joining the WVSSAC executive staff, Reed served as the assistant principal and athletic director at Martinsburg High School from 2003-2015. From 1989-2003, Reed worked at Nicholas County High School as a head coach of four different sports during his tenure. Reed also served as the girls track head coach and assistant football coach at East Hardy High School in the 1988-1989 school year, working with future Martinsburg head coach David Walker.

Reed is a Glenville State College alumnus and he earned advanced degrees from West Virginia University and Salem International University. Reed played basketball at GSC for head coach Gary Nottingham and he graduated in 1987.
