PETERSBURG, W.Va. — The city of Petersburg, West Virginia will be the host site for the first ever field hearing for the House Committee on Ways and Means.
The hearing, which takes a look at the economy in Appalachia, will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at Allegheny Wood Products on Johnson Run Road.
Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) is a member of the committee and said the people of West Virginia can make their voices heard during this hearing.
“I’m excited for my colleagues on the most powerful committee in Congress to hear directly from my fellow West Virginians and understand what we can do to represent their interests best,” Miller said.
In a statement released Friday, Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) said, “We will hear directly from small business owners, workers, and families about how they have been affected by inflation, supply chain problems, and high energy costs.”
A handful of small business owners in the state will be in attendance, with the committee looking for ways Congress can assist them.
Smith said this will be the first of many hearings put on by the committee, as they hope to hear first-hand the challenges families and small businesses are facing.
“Over the next two years, this Committee will partner with the American people to develop solutions and deliver results that will make a difference in their lives,” said Smith.
The Congressional Budget Office has found that inflation has greatly impacted rural communities over urban communities by more than 130%.
The hearing is open to the media and can also be watched via the Ways and Means Committee YouTube channel.
