State Forester will be buried in Summersville Wednesday

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — The funeral services have been announced for the Fayette County state forester who was killed in a forest fire last week.

Cody John Mullens, 28, of Mt. Hope, died Thursday April 13, while battling a forest fire on Armstrong Creek in Fayette County.

Mullens was a forester for the WV Division of Forestry. He was a lover of everything outdoors, but loved his family, friends, and job the most.

Services will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday April 19, at the Summersville Armory and Convention Center. Burial will follow the service at take place in the WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin.

Calls may be made at the armory from 11 a.m. until service time.

Gov. Jim Justice issued a proclamation, ordering all U.S. and state flags at the Capitol Complex and all state-owned facilities in Fayette County be flown at half-staff.

The Governor also said, “All West Virginians mourn the tragic loss of this brave son who gave his life to protect and save people in emergency situations, and sympathy on their behalf is extended to his loved ones, his many friends, members of the West Virginia Division of Forestry family with whom he served faithfully and honorably, and to all those who knew and loved him.”

The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville is in charge of arrangements.
