Woman and child flown to hospital after collision with train

GALLIPOLIS FERRY, W.Va. — Deputies in Mason County say two people including a child were flown to a hospital following a collision between a train and a car in Gallipolis Ferry.

Mason County Sheriff Corey Miller said a woman driver was trying to cross the tracks. The train hit the driver side of the vehicle and dragged it more than 800 feet, according to Mason County Sheriff’s Lt. Victor Arian.

According to WV511.org, the accident happened on West Virginia Route 2 around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The conditions of the two people are not yet known.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of West Virginia Route 2 were closed but have since reopened.
