Social Security Administration releases America’s Most Popular Baby Names for 2022

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Only one new name joining the list of America’s most popular baby names in 2022, with Oliva and Liam once again making the very top.

Luna makes its way into the top girls’ names at number 10 for the first time, but Olivia has been the top choice for four years in a row now, and Liam topping the list for six consecutive years.

The Social Security Administration has been compiling the baby names list every year since 1997, and has included some dating back to 1880.

Noah, Oliver, James, and Elijah are a few others making the top 2022 boys’ names after Liam, while Emma, Charlotte, Amelia and Sophia are a few compiling the list of the top girls’ names for that year, along with Olivia and Luna.

The list also includes the rising pop-culture influence on naming trends every year, some of these include Dutton, Kayce, and Chosen for boys, and Wrenlee, Neriah, and Georgina for girls.

Acting Commissioner of Social Security, Kilolo Kijakazi said Social Security numbers allow them to keep compiling the lists every year.

“Just like your name, Social Security is with you from day one,” Kijakazi said. “One of the first things parents do for their newborn is get them a Social Security number. That makes Social Security the ultimate source for the most popular baby names each year!”

People can visit Social Security Baby Names on its website to see the entire list and where their name ranks over the past 100 years.

The site now offers an updated platform with easier accessibility for finding names, along with the option to create a personalized online account called my Social Security. It’s a function that allows members to make changes and adjustments to their social security.
