14-year-old in custody after leading police on high-speed chase

ELKINS, W.Va. — A 14-year-old with an outstanding warrant from Virginia led police on a multi-county pursuit with speeds of up to 125 miles per hour in Randolph and Tucker counties.

The pursuit began on Parsons Road in Tucker County Thursday and more police units joined the chase as it went into Randolph County.

Police said the teen driver passed in no-passing zones and drove through stop signs while other cars remained stopped at a high rate of speed. The driver was also able to avoid a set of stop sticks deployed on Corridor H near Kerens. On Corridor H, police say the vehicle reached 125 miles per hour while entering Elkins. At the Elkins exit, the car suddenly slowed down and came to a complete stop.

Deputies determined the teen was wanted in Virginia and the car he was in was reported stolen.

The juvenile was taken to a detention facility, where a juvenile petition for possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing with reckless indifference will be filed.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Tucker County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police and Elkins Police Department were all on the scene.
