1 dead in Mercer County shooting

BLUEWELL, W.Va. — Mercer County sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who shot and killed a man in the community of Bluewell.

It happened at Lynn’s Drive-in at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Arrien Porterfield, 27, of Princeton, was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Steven Sommers.

“As deputies were responding, additional calls came in stating that there was a male down in the parking lot of Lynn’s Drive-in. Upon their arrival, they confirmed that there was single victim, a black male, that was deceased,” Sommers said.

Sommers said they believe it was a homicide and that there were people in the area who saw what happened.

“We believe there are additional eyewitnesses and video taken of the incident and we’re asking those people come forward,” Sommers said.

No arrests have been made. Sommers said it’s unknown what lead up to the shooting.

“We are actively reviewing surviellance and interviewing additional witnesses who have been identified. We do have some leads and we are following up on those,” he said. “I’m not confortable saying what the motive is. There is a bunch of moving pieces to this homicide.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
