HENLAWSON, W.Va. — An Ohio man is behind bars after allegedly shooting his mother at a nursing home in Logan County.

James Steed Biddell, 44, of Chillicothe, Ohio, traveled to the Trinity Healthcare Nursing Home on Bills Branch Road in Henlawson Monday night to visit his mother. That’s when deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office say Biddell pulled out a gun and shot his 67 year old mother Tomalene Greene.
Logan County Chief Deputy Mike LaFauci told MetroNews deputies were heading to the scene when Biddell sped off in his silver Chevrolet Truck.
“While we were enroute to the nursing home, they had advised that it was a son who had shot his mother who was a resident of the nursing home and then fled the scene in the truck,” he said.
State Police arrested Biddell shortly after the shooting about 8-10 miles from the nursing home on U.S. Route 119 near the Chapmanville exit.
Biddell was charged with attempted murder, malicious wounding and wanton endangerment. LaFauci said the wanton endangerment charge was filed because there was a roommate was in the mother’s room at the time of the shooting.
Greene was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. She was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center immediately after being shot.
“The victim ended up being shot in the chest and was life flighted,” LaFauci said.
LaFauci said the shooting happened fairly quickly without any chaos leading up to it.
“No body had rushed in there to the room until he left the scene. I think the roommate had alerted the staff there that something happened,” he said.
Biddell is currently being held at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
