Jefferson County Schools fires teacher after charges surface from another state

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Jefferson High School teacher has been fired after his arrest on felony charges from another state.

Edgar Conn (WVRJA)

Edgar Conn, 37, who taught English at Jefferson High, is in custody on a fugitive from justice charge from Georgia.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Matt Harvey said Conn faces eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor out of Cobb County, Georgia.

Information from Jefferson County Schools over the weekend said the school system relieved Conn immediately from his duties when it became aware of the allegations against him.

A social media platform lists Conn as being an English teacher at Jefferson High School beginning in 2021. Prior to that, Linked In refers to him as an employee of the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.

A statement from the school system said, “As required by law, JCS immediately notified the West Virginia Department of Education for the purpose of licensure review and nationwide notification purposes to prevent the former employee from being able to teach. ”

JCS said it would like to publicly acknowledge and thank our partners in law enforcement.

“Given this is an ongoing criminal investigation and formal charges have been filed, JCS will not comment further. All future inquiries should be directed to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.”
