Mother now charged in overdose death of twin toddlers

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Raleigh County woman is jailed on charges of child neglect resulting in death.

State Police were called to a home at Lanark, W.Va. February 28th where twin two year old’s were unresponsive. The twins had died. Trooper Christian Harvey with the West Virginia State Police said since the, investigator had learned the two toddlers died after ingesting fentanyl and several other drugs.

“Upon arriving to the scene, the two juveniles were already deceased,” said Harvey. “From a thorough investigation, Olivia Moore has been placed under arrest for child neglect causing death, times two.”

Moore, 30, is the mother of the two babies. They were found unresponsive on a couch in February and an investigation into their deaths revealed both died of the overdose while they were under the care of their mother.

“After we received the death certificates, it showed several controlled substances in their system and from her statement they were in the care of Oliva Moore at that time,” he said.

Moore was arrested Tuesday and remains lodged in the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
