Fairmont woman faces charges after allegedly failing to report abuse

FAIRMONT, W. Va. — A Fairmont woman has been charged after state police said she failed to get help for a juvenile female who she knew was being sexually abused.

Chelsea Nice, 34, has been charged with child neglect resulting in injury and is being held in North Central Regional Jail on a $200,012 bond.

State police participated in a forensic interview with a 7-year-old girl who described being sexually assaulted four times in Marion County beginning last year.

The child told investigators she informed Nice about the incidents but she continued to leave the child in the care of the assailant.

Investigators learned Nice did not notify authorities or seek a medical evaluation for the child during the period the assaults were taking place.

Nice told investigators she was only aware of one report. But investigators learned from the victim that Nice had been informed by the victim of all four incidents. Once again, Nice did not report the events or seek medical care for the victim.
