MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Investigators in Berkeley County have identified the woman who was killed in a Martinsburg fire back in May.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division identified Samantha Jane Dailey, 32, of Charles Town, as the victim of the May 6 murder.
Dailey’s deceased body was found in the 100 block of Golf Course Road in Martinsburg after Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were called to respond to a couch on fire. Dailey’s body was found after the fire was extinguished.
David Antonio Calderon, 46, was arrested and charged with murder. Calderon was determined to be an illegal alien from El Salvador who was denied asylum in Canada at the New York/Canadian border. Calderon was then turned over to US Customs and Border Patrol where he was released into society.
Calderon was arrested on May 8 in Fredrick County, Virginia on previous Malicious Assault warrants from April, but it was determined he was the suspect of the Dailey murder when investigators found surveillance of the suspect and his vehicle in the same area as a tracking unit on the missing Dailey.
Dailey had been reported missing from a home confinement program in Jefferson County.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, Calderon had previous arrests and convictions in El Salvador that include DUI, Sexual Assault/Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Narcotics related crimes.
