WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Vandalia Health President and CEO Dave Ramsey laid out an aggressive path for the health system in the months and years to come during his presentation Thursday at the annual West Virginia Business Summit hosted by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
Ramsey, speaking on the health system’s second anniversary, said the growth of the system in 24 short months has been tremendous.
“We’ve moved so far in such a short period of time, it’s just spectacular,” Ramsey said.
The Charleston-based CAMC and the Morgantown-based Mon Health systems announced their merger at the 2022 Business Summit. The system now includes management agreements with 14 hospitals, affiliate agreements with three other hospitals and a number of other partnerships.
“We’re creating access, creating energy and creating employment,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey listed a number of projects underway or in the planning stages including:
–new physician’s building at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte
“Our physicians currently in this area are spread out across the community and we really want to bring them into the hospital environment to make it convenient not only for them but for the patients as well,” Ramsey said.
–investment at Teays Valley Hospital in Putnam County
“We’re going to build new surgical suites, new vascular lab, new emergency room, new cancer facility there,” Ramsey said.
–new Neurological Institute to be built in Charleston
“In central and southern West Virginia, most of the neurosurgery and neurology services, frankly, there aren’t many physicians in southern West Virginia,” Ramsey said. “So we’re building an institute.”
Ramsey also said Vandalia still plans to build a new Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston. He said he’s hopeful regulatory approval will be gained in the next year.
“The hospital that is there is 55-years-old, they need a new hospital,” he said. “They need to bring the modern facilities to their community to create access to their community to take care of people close to home.”
