Fatal crash under investigation in Berkeley County

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports a Friday night crash has claimed the life of a man from Berkeley Springs.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision with entrapment/injuries in the 2400 block of Tuscarora Pike at about 9:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, Deputies located a single vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Journey, off the roadway into a tree. Initial evidence on scene, indicated that the vehicle was traveling southwest on Tuscarora Pike downhill and was negotiating a curve. The vehicle appeared to travel off the roadway where it lost control and struck a tree.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Berkeley Springs, died at the scene.

There was evidence on scene that indicated both speed and driving under the influence were contributing factors in the collision.
