Wetzel County BOE votes to consolidate four schools into two

WETZEL COUNTY, W.Va.— The Wetzel County Board of Education voted to close and consolidate four of their schools into two Friday morning.

With this consolidation, it will send Hundred High Schools students to Valley High School and Paden City Students to Magnolia High School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.

The board voted 4-1 for the consolidation of Paden City, with board member Jimmy Glasscock being the one no.

And the board voted 3-2 for the consolidation of Hundred High, with board members Jimmy Glasscock and Brian Castilow being the two nos.

With the board’s decision, it will now go to the West Virginia Board of Education in Charleston for their vote. They will vote on it in their meeting on December 11.

If the WV BOE votes on the consolidation, that means the two schools would get a new name, colors, mascot, and a mission. The board members said that they hope the community and the schools can come together and chose the name, colors, mascot and mission.

The board had a public meeting before the vote where one person said “You killed our towns, thank you for not doing your job and listening to everybody. You will not have a seat coming next election.”
