Congressman-elect Moore ready for move to Washington

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Treasurer Riley Moore is getting set to head to Washington.

Moore was elected to represent the state’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House in the November election. He’ll be sworn-in Jan. 3.

Moore is waiting to hear what committees he’ll be assigned to. He said his preferences had to be submitted by last Friday.

His top pick is to be a member of the powerful Committee on Appropriations. Moore is also interested in the Energy and Commerce Committees and the House Finance Committee.

“I’m going to try my best (to get on appropriations). Of course, we have a long history of appropriators here in West Virginia and it would be great to have one here back in the House,” Moore said.

Moore has already won one election among freshmen House members. He was chosen to represent the class on the 12-member Elected Leadership Committee.

“I got the freshmen representation spot there. I ran against a good man from Montana and I was able to come out on top,” Moore said.

Moore said much about being in the U.S. House is having a strong constituent relations office.

“That is one of the big parts of the job, being the interface to the federal government for your constituents, whether it’s Social Security or veterans benefits or any of these types of things,” Moore said.

He is bringing some workers from the Treasurer’s office to help in that area.

“I have a little bit of experience in the last four years, we do have field staff in the Treasurer’s office, we’ll bringing a couple of people over with that where we’ve done a good job,” Moore said.

Moore said his office will be in 1337 Longworth House Office Building.

State Revenue Secretary Larry Pack is the state Treasurer-elect.
