Morrisey meets with multiple state leaders to discuss transition into office

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor-elect Patrick Morrisey met with multiple state officials Wednesday to discuss the upcoming transition process and policy priorities for the upcoming year.

Morrisey met with Speaker of the House Roger Hanshaw and senate president-elect Randy Smith, and Smith, the longtime coal miner, says Morrisey’s vision excites him and others in the state.

“The energy and excitement about the future of our state has never been greater,” Smith said. “I’m thankful for Governor-elect Morrisey’s vision for our state, and I look forward to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the governor to improve the lives of West Virginians.”

Hanshaw says lawmakers are ready to work with the former attorney general.

“The Legislature is eager to get to work with Governor-elect Morrisey and the team he is assembling,” Hanshaw said. “We share the goal of creating opportunities for all West Virginians and as we continue to meet in the months ahead, we’ll continue to work toward the united mission of moving our state forward together.”

Morrisey says he’s ready to tackle the state’s issues with leaders like Smith and Hanshaw.

“I know the future is bright for our state,” Morrisey said. “I’m incredibly grateful for their time today, and I look forward to our ongoing work together to tackle the biggest challenges facing West Virginia.”
