Gov. Jim Justice, coming to the end of his second term as governor, gave state workers the seasonal gift of days off on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Justice made the announcement during an administration briefing.
“The great employees of the State of West Virginia deserve this,” Justice said, “and we want to make sure that everybody understands and can make plans.”
Originally, Justice said, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve had been scheduled as half-day holidays. Each falls on a Tuesday.
Justice said he would instead designate those as full days off.
“So enjoy,” he said. “Enjoy with your families and everything. You deserve it. You’ve done great, great, great work.”
This is a move that Justice has made repeatedly around holidays. For example, last month, the governor announced his administration would give state workers the day before Thanksgiving as a half day and the day after Thanksgiving as a full day off.
For Independence Day, which fell on a Thursday this year, Justice declared that Friday to be a day off.
