Award being offered for anyone who has information surrounding the 2020 death of Staff Sgt. Logan Young

BERKELY COUNTY, W.Va.— On the four-year anniversary of Air National Guard firefighter Logan Young’s tragic death, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department has announced that an award fund of $35,000 has been created in order to generate more information on the case.

At the time of his death, Young was a senior airman with the Martinsburg-based 167th Airlift Wing, died while he was battling an arson fire at a barn in the early hours on December 27, 2020. Investigators did say that beam in the barn collapsed onto Young and another firefighter.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death are still under active investigation, while authorities continue to pursue all leads. A special task force, along with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the office of the State Fire Marshal, and the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes task force are working together to bring justice and find closure.

With the investigation still ongoing, they are offering the award to anyone who provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Staff Sgt. Young’s death.

The $35,000 awards consist of three contributions, $20,000 and $10,000 were donated by anonymous citizens and $5,000 was donated by the State’s Fire Marshal’s Office. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information to come forward because the case remains open, and investigators are committed to following any new developments.

They hope that with the continued help from the public and collaboration, those responsible will be held accountable for the tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Young.
