U.S. Senator Capito looks ahead to what Congress will discuss in this session

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito is looking ahead on what Congress plans to tackle in the session.

Capito was on “Talkline” with Hoppy Kercheval Friday morning where she gave her thoughts what on she thinks will happen in this session.

One of the first things she is looking ahead at is the deportation that President-elect Donald Trump is planning.

She believes that the deportation will be done the right way.

“It will be an orderly deportation, but it will be big because there’s a lot of people here illegally who had their cases heard, or who will have them heard who do not qualify for asylum,” Capito said.

She said that it will most likely be the violent offenders who are deported first.

“I think what the president is going to do is go to folks who are in jail now, illegals who are in jail who have committed crimes, serious crimes in the country,” Capito said. “There already under deportation orders and the Biden administration has not sent them back.”

Another thing she expects to be a big contender in this session is about the location and distribution of energy. Former Senator Manchin had a bill that would have reduced regulatory requirements of some of the locations and distributions, however it didn’t pass.

Capito said that things like that need to be put through the appropriate channels.

“I think we have to regroup here, any type of energy that needs to be built or distribution that’s going to be built, whether it’s renewables, or whether it’s coal or whether it’s nuclear, it has to go through the permitting regime so that there’s a unified interest in seeing that we do permitting reform,” she said.

With these two big issues on the list for discussion, she believes that this session of Congress will run smoothly.

“At least we will have the vast majority of these bills will be put on the floor for consideration, then it goes to a conference committee, which is the way it’s intended to do from the house and the senate because we’re going to have different opinions how where we want to go,” Capito said.

The congress session began Friday.
