Spring Valley’s Jalyn Abercrombie commits to play at Marshall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Jalyn Abercrombie has the unique opportunity to play Division I football in his hometown. The Spring Valley High School wide receiver has committed to play at Marshall University.

Abercrombie was initially offered by head coach Charles Huff a year ago and he will now play for new head coach Tony Gibson.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver and defensive back helped the Timberwolves to an 8-4 season and a spot in the Class AAA quarterfinals this fall.

Abercrombie earned first team All-State honors in each of the last two seasons. This fall, Abercrombie caught 53 passes for 1,042 yards with 14 touchdowns. He also had a passing touchdown, a touchdown run, a kickoff return for a score and a pick-six.

Abercrombie will be joined at Marshall by former Spring Valley teammate Ben Turner. Turner is transferring to Marshall after playing three seasons at West Liberty.

In his four-year Spring Valley career, Abercrombie rushed 124 times for 951 yards and ten touchdowns. He caught 92 passes for 1,774 yards and 22 scores.
