Huntington Police Department boat fully submerged in Ohio River

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington Police patrol boat is currently fully underwater in the Ohio River.

The boat, Isaac H. Mitchell, was discovered listing Wednesday morning during a routine inspection. The vessel was fully submerged shortly after.

The now submerged boat was docked at Adam’s Landing Marina in the Guyandotte community.

The department will utilize a contractor to retrieve the boat Thursday. They will do so by the use of a crane.

According to the Huntington Police Department, after the boat is retrieved, the department will conduct a “thorough assessment to determine the extent of the damage and the cause of the incident.”

The boat, which was acquired in 2013, was named after Isaac H. Mitchell, a former Huntington City Marshal who was killed in the line of duty.

The boat was used for the department to help with investigations and maintain a presence on the river for any incidents.
