WESTON, W.Va. — The new Sheriff of Lewis County didn’t wait long to exercise his commitment to cracking down on drugs in his county. Members of the Sheriff’s office along with state and local law enforcement raided a home last week in Weston and turned up a large haul of drugs along with nine arrests.
“We’ve been watching this house for a little bit and we knew there had been a lot of heroin and fentanyl coming into the county through there. The opportunity came up and we were able to get a warrant and hit that house,” said Lewis County Sheriff Mickey Metz.
The raid fit perfectly into the platform Metz promised Lewis County voters to be tough on drugs, but he was quick to give credit to the officers and detectives at all levels of law enforcement working in partnership. The Weston City Police and West Virginia State Police also contributed to the investigation and the raid.
“We got quite a bit of fentanyl and heroin stamps out of there,” he added.
Authorities seized more than 1,000 units of the two drugs along with $1,000 in cash. Along with the drugs seized nine people were arrested inside the home.
“That was not planned. When it arose and we were able to get the warrant and hit the place, they were just there,” Metz said.
Among those taken into custody were Cody Keesecker, 40, and Madison Townsend, 27. Both are charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The other seven were charged with conspiracy. All are being held at the Central Regional Jail at Flatwoods.
“This bust will put a big dent in the fentanyl that was coming into the county, but there’s a lot more work that needs to be done,” Metz said.
